The interview provides information and personal observations about Hunt's home environment through Basic Training, Ski School training, Camp Swift and the Italian campaign -- being inducted into the Army and assignment with the 7th Armor Division, during training, his Battalion was disbanded and its personnel assigned to the 90th Mountain Infantry -- training in rock climbing and skiing, and assignment to mule handler duties -- 90th was disbanded and transfer to the 86th Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division -- volunteering as a "Weasel" driver, accepted due to his driving experience in civilian life and with the 7th Armored Division -- participation in the testing of the Weasel -- combat training at Camp Swift, Tex. and the transport of his unit (now the 85th Regiment) to Italy aboard the cruise ship "Argentina"--Naples and participation in delivering supplies to the front by truck and Weasel -- experiences in the attack on Riva Ridge and Mt Belvedere, the Po River Campaign, and later the confrontation with Yugoslavian troops as the war was ending -- experiences during the trip back to the States and mustering out of the Army

Biographical or historical data
Charles Darby Hunt was born on January 14, 1925 in S.C. and enlisted in the Army at Fort Jackson, S.C. on June 9, 1943. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried and had completed four years of high school. After basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., Hunt joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. He was assigned to Company C of the 86th Infantry Regiment, later with Company E of the 90th Infantry Regiment. He also served at Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. Hunt earned a Bronze Star Medal for his actions during the Apennine and Po RIver Campaigns in Spring 1945. He attained the rank of Private First Class. Hunt died on January 14, 2008 in Greenville, S.C.
