- LaVern O. Trepp was born on December 8, 1917 in Kief, N.D. and enlisted in the Army on February 3, 1942 in Wausau, Wis. At the time of his enlistment he was single, had completed 2 years of college and was working as a skilled mechanic and repairman. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Lewis, Wash. and later served at Camp Hale, Colo., Ft. Ord, Calif., Kiska Island, Alaska, the Columbia Ice Fields, Camp Swift, Tex. and in Italy. Trepp was assigned to Company A, F, K, L of the 87th Infantry Regiment, and Company B and D of the 10th Mountain Division/Medical. While engaged in combat operations against the German forces occupying Italy, Trepp was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions at Castel D'Aiano on April 15, 1945. He attained the rank of Sergeant. Trepp died on April 23, 2005 in Iron Mountain, Mich.
