Biographical or historical data
Martin L. "Marty" Daneman was born on March 9, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y., but moved with his family to Chicago, Ill. in 1938. He volunteered for service with the 10th Mountain Division when he turned 18 and arrived at Camp Hale, Colo. in April 1943. Initially assigned to the 86th Infantry Regiment, he later served with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 85th Infantry Regiment and was trained as an intelligence scout and observer. During combat operations in Italy, Damenan received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the European-Africa-Middle Eastern campaign Medal with two battle stars. He attained the rank of corporal.
