Biographical or historical data: Robert C. Sabin was born on July 28, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He enlisted in the Army on June 13, 1943 and received his basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif. Sabin was later selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) in engineering and attended the University of Oregon at Eugene. Upon termination of the ASTP program, he was sent to the Infant Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. Sabin received his commission and was assigned to Company I of the 85th Infantry Regiment at Camp Swift, Tex. He was wounded in action and also received a Bronze Star medal for his actions at Mt. Belvedere on February 20, 1945. After the war, Sabin transferred to the 2nd Infantry Division and was discharged in May 1946. He later served with the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War.
